So this story is kinda interesting…… You see, not all the time but most of the time when I’m out on a photo excursion something unexpected happens. It could be good, it could be bad, it could be crazy funny! I guess you could say the experience I had near Marathon, Texas was good, could have been bad, but for sure crazy funny! Lol! My husband and I were out late afternoon looking for wildlife when we notice the sky starting to cloud up. We both thought it was strange for the weather to start changing so quickly. There was no forecast for rain. The more we watched the faster it was coming. I wanted to take one last shot of the sun lowering into the storm clouds before we took off back to the hotel. I managed to get it, then we were off …… leaving to go back we were driving towards the storm, almost to the hotel the storm was right on us. What we then realized it wasn’t just a normal storm….. no it was a HABOOB! Now if you don’t know what a Haboob is, it’s just a really scary name for an epic dust storm! Yep you got the idea, here we are smack dap in the middle of it! I got out of the jeep and took one image of the storm just before the sand started to hit the car. We made it to the hotel and had to wrap the cameras and ourselves in coats and jackets to get to the room. Thankfully no one was hurt and I did get some “one of a kind” shots of the HABOOB. Thank you God for allowing me to see another amazing nature experience!
P.S. My son warned me about haboobs in the Big Bend area. I laughed at him thinking he was silly. So who is laughing now?? Lol!
